The Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band recently completed a 35 day tour of the European battlefields from both World Wars.  The band performed 45 times in 35 days in 6 different countries. 




 At the Battle of Fromelles there were not enough helmets for all of the troops, so many Australians charged the German trenches wearing a Slouch Hat.

PHAWB honours those who fell at Fromelles at the official ceremony for the 99th Anniversary with A BROWN SLOUCH HAT on July 19th 2015.

PHAWB salutes the airmen who flew on Operation Jericho. The band played outside the Amiens Jail as part of their 2015 tour in honour of those who took part and the French civilians who died in the aftermath.

 

Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band plays this iconic Aussie anthem as part of their Australians at War tour of Europe in July 2015. They performed on the battlefields of the Western Front as well as Gallipoli and significant World War Two sites.

 

The Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band was honoured to have Ft Sgt Cliff Byfield speak at our last concert about his time in Bomber Command in 1944. In this video Cliff is accompanied by a musical soundtrack from the band's recent D Day Commemorative Concet 

In April 2014 the band had the honour of performing at the centenary of Wesfarmers, This video shows the band's versatility with swing classics, rock classics, march classics and orchestral classics.



The band played a tribute concert on the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings.

As part of their GOLD AWARD winning performance at the 2013
Australian International Music Festival PHAWB plays the famous
Dambusters Theme as a hymn.




We invited the Pink Panther to play with us is Sydney and Canberra but he was badly behaved and kept running away to chat to the audience. 


PHAWB plays the Australian National Anthem at the changing of the Federation Guard and closing ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.  This  comes one week after the band's Gold Award winning performance at the Australian International Music Festival in Sydney


 PHAWB plays Karl King's famous march in Pearl Harbor, Honolulu.

The Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band pays tribute to the Australians  from World War One and Two by playing the Last Post at various battlefields throughout Europe.  The bugle was recorded live at the Australian Museum BULLECOURT 1917 in France in July 2015 on a bugle supplied by RSL WA.

PHAWB salutes the Dambusters squadron with Abide with Me/Last Post recorded at RAF Scampton. 



The Dambusters March (complete) was played at the D Day 70 years on concert and will be played in Europe at the dams in Germany and the air base that they left from in July 2015.


Step back in time with PHAWB as they transform the ballroom of the El Caballo Resort  back to the swinging 1940s with the sounds of Glenn Miller, Sy Oliver and Duke Ellington



An Outstanding performance of Brian Hogg's The New ANZACs from the Gold Award winning Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band recorded live in Sydney 2013. The New ANZACS tells the story of the Gallipoli landings.  A bugle calls the men to the boats,  The pulse of the men rowing to  the Turkish shoreline.  The landing and subsequent shooting.  A truce to bury the dead and the singing of a hymn & the triumphant success of the Australian withdrawal.  

One of the highlights of our Hawaii tour was a performance at
Pearl Harbor.

This is a tribute to those who died on Dec 7th 1941in Pearl Harbour  in Hawaii and was played by the band at the Pacific Basin Music International Festival in Honolulu in 2012.



Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band were accepted into the Pacific Basin Music Festival in Hawaii in March 2012. PHAWB takes musicians from the south west of Western Australia and combines them into a band that participates
in festivals and competitions all around the world as well as performing in smaller groups in Perth and West Australian regional towns.

special guests The Filth led by the West Australian Police  
Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan.

The Perth Hills and Wheatbelt Band on tour in China for the 2010 World Expo played 9 concerts in 2 cities including on the World Expo Stage where this recording was made. The vision showcases our travels within these two great cities. 


On July 3rd 2010 the band left for Shanghai after just one day together. Performing under the name of NORTHAM AREA YOUTH BAND the band performed 6 times in China sharing the stage with ensembles from the most famous universities in the world. - (Harvard, Eton, Oxford, Cambridge and Yale). 
 This video is a snapshot of that tour and demonstrates the versatility of these young musicians.and was recorded live on the World Expo stage in Shanghai, China on July 8th 2010.

As part of their tour of China, the band, (under the name of Northam Area Youth Band), performed on the stage at the World Expo in Shanghai twice on the same day.

Pirates of the Caribbean recorded at the World Expo Shanghai 2010 by the Perth Hills and Wheat Band traveling as the Northam Area Youth Band. The band consists of students from 8 different schools.

The Northam Area Schools Band plays two British classics as part of the 2008 Australian International Music Festival at the Sydney Opera House. NASB is a combined school band with students ranging in age from 10 - 18 from eight different schools in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region.


In five years the Kalamunda SHS concert band has received 3 OUTSTANDING and 2 EXCELLENT awards at the WA Schools band festival. Kalamunda is in the heart of the Perth Hills and home base for PHAWB Administration.  This performance features some outstanding flute playing and wonderfully balanced controlled ensemble work. In 2007 a band was formed from 4 primary schools and 2 high schools to travel to Sydney to the 19th International Music festival in the Sydney Opera House in 2008.
The youngest member of the band was 11 years old and 65% of the band was in Primary School at the time. The band received a SILVER AWARD.

Brain West's HORNPIPE is a brisk energetic piece that requires accurate light articulation from the woodwinds and some noble dark chords from the brass in the slow section.

In 2008 PHAWB travelling as NASB toured Sydney and Canberra. The band was mostly primary school aged children with the youngest being 10 years old.
